Divergent Learning

Divergent Learners

I have always been an analytical thinker.  Personal curiosity about my thoughts attracted me to the term, “metacognition”.  Simply put, it means thinking about what you are thinking about.  This is the approach I bring to all students, no matter their age or education level.  It is also the way I cope with my brain health challenges.  Hence,  I am the Brain Doc.

Divergent Learners are far from dumb or slow.  We are people who do not learn solely or partially from the Socratic style of teaching.  I have a love for words.  Words that accompany a combination of visual and practical application approaches are the best learning methods for me.  Those who teach, present, or facilitate learning must understand that each person has a unique learning style.  It is our responsibility as educators to learn and incorporate diverse teaching methods to maximize the benefit of resources and time.

Online learners may struggle because of the lack of tangible, 3-dimensional learning tools.

What the student sees may not be what you see.  Did you check?

What the student hears may not be what you hear.  Did you check?

What the student remembers may not be what you taught.  Did you check?

What the student knows may not be what you think they know.  Did you check?

Show them how until you become one without force or pressure.

Practice gentleness, repetition, patience, and acceptance.

Respectfully,

Brain Doc (She, Her, Hers)
